Day #352 – Jester King Das Wunderkind!

December 19, 2011

Day 5 and we are almost done. Tomorrow will be the last of my Jester King feature…but I promise it’s a good one!

Jester King Das Wunderkind!

This beer has still not been released to the public. I had heard about it many many months ago when they first opened, as that’s when they brewed their first batch, but they have been holding on to this beer. They have been aging these in wine oak barrels and every so often they taste it to see what they think. I believe many batches have been blended together to make different flavors. I don’t know what batch I have tonight but I am excited to see it.

This is classified as a Saison, even though the farmhouse yeast and oak barrels have given it a sour edge. That’s part of the thrill I suppose. 4.2% ABV.

This beer pours a very murky golden orange color with some light brown notes. White ring of foamy head.

Aroma is big time saison with lemon zest, funk, farmhouse notes, sweetness and wine.

Flavor is lightly tart and dry. Saison funkiness with citrus flavor. Zesty and tart. The tartness however is not overly so. Finishes slightly tart. Nice.
