Day #312 – Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA

November 9, 2011

Ah Stone Brewing Company. For years you have provided us with unapologetic beers that push the limits of everything established in beer. With this beer, they celebrate their 15th anniversary. Let’s hope they do it in a grand way.

Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA

This beer as I mentioned previously is their 15th Anniversary beer. It is listed as an Imperial Black IPA, and holds an impressive 10.5% alcohol by volume. This ought to be good.

Tap at the FW Saucer. Pours a very dark brown color with only a hint of dark red when put to the light. Tall foamy head, colored brown.

Aroma is fairly hoppy, fresh pine and a slight touch of dark malts. Maybe a little bit of roast in this.

Flavor is a fairly decent balance between hops and malts. It starts with a sharp hoppy bite that transforms into a malty roast in the middle. The finish is a mix of hop linger and sweet malts. Man I like this.
