Day #284 – Woodchuck Pumpkin Cider

October 12, 2011

As you might have noticed last night, it is certainly Pumpkin beer season. Several companies come out with a pumpkin spice beer around this time of year and some of them are quite good. (see last night’s entry.) Tonight I’ve got a beer, well a cider that is pumpkin infused. I’ve never tried anything like it but I’m open to new ideas.

Woodchuck Pumpkin Cider

Woodchuck is made by Green Mountain Cidery in Middlebury, Vermont. I haven’t reviewed anything from them so far, as I view them more of the Budweiser of ciders and not so much of a craft producer. I have never tried a pumpkin cider though before so I’ll give it a shot.

This cider pours a very clear orange color with a small fizzy white head. The head bubbles and disappears very quickly.

The aroma is faint pumpkin, some spice with a soapy type nose. Faint smell.

The flavor is interesting. Upfront is sugary and sweet, light spice and faint pumpkin. The finish is a little strange though, as it has almost an expired candy flavor. Meh I’m not feeling this.
