Day #280 – Samuel Adams Bonfire Rauchbier

October 8, 2011

I’ve got another Samuel Adams beer for today; the last new one in their seasonal pack.

Samuel Adams Bonfire Rauchbier

This beer is the final new release in the Samuel Adams Seasonal Harvest mix pack. It is classified as a Rauchbier, or a smoked beer. These beers are often made with malts that have been smoked to give it a nice woodsy flavor and aroma. This one has 5.7%.

This beer pours a clear deep ruby red color with a beige type head. It has a lot of carbonation bubbles emanating from the bottom of the glass.

The aroma is certainly smoky. Smoked wood and beef come to mind with heavy malts and some grassy notes. Earth tones perhaps.

Flavor is also smoked with a slight beef jerky flavor as well as wood, oak and outdoors. This is not one of my favorite styles but it falls in line with the others of it’s type. Worth the taste if you’ve never tried the style before.
