Day #259 – Spaten Münchner Hell / München / Premium

September 18, 2011

Late post today because all last night I was at OKTOBERFEST!!! Every year the city of Addison, TX holds an Oktoberfest celebration and it is rated as one of the best in North America. After going last night, I certainly concur. There was plenty of German food, music, games and oh yes…lots of beer! Since I reviewed the Spaten Oktoberfest beer on Tuesday, I will feature their Premium Lager today.

This beer goes by 3 different names depending on what part of the world you are in. Mostly in DFW you will see the Premium variety. This beer is classified as a Helles which is a light lager. It has an ABV of 5.2%, and it comes with an awesome mug to go with it!

This beer pours a very clear golden color with a light white head. The head dissipated pretty quickly as you can see from the picture.

Aroma is pretty straightforward. Mainly dry notes of grains and malts, with a light sweetness.

The flavor is much of the same out of the nose. Malts, grains and quite bready. It finishes lightly bitter but very refreshing. This is something I could drink on all night, but I only had one and then went to the Oktoberfest variety from Spaten. It was a fun night and I will certainly be going back!
