Day #209 – Sierra Nevada Ovila Saison

July 29, 2011

Out at the Moth today; figured I would drop in and try something new. Lo and behold they had something new I had never tried!

Sierra Nevada Ovila Saison

Sierra Nevada is based out of Chico, California. This particular beer was a collaboration between Sierra Nevada and the Abbey of New Clairvaux. It is classified as a saison at 7% ABV.

This beer pours a very lovely shade of orange. The appearance is slightly hazy with a light amount of carbonation on top. White bubbles.

Aroma is light when it is cold but begins to emerge more as it warms. The biggest notes I pick up are definitely citrus and Belgian fruit. Light grain and funk.

Flavor is big time grains and funk. Belgian fruit and dry yeast. Finishes dry. Almost tart but not quite. This is very much a saison. Very clean.
