Day #102 – Santa Fe State Pen Porter

April 12, 2011

Santa Fe State Pen Porter

Today is a beer from Santa Fe Brewing, based out of…you guessed it….Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is actually one of my favorite beers from them so this should be pretty good! It is classified as a porter at 6.4% ABV.

It pours a very dark brown color that lets a little light in through the edges, but not much. It has a small beige head that begins to fade fairly quickly.

Oooooo, the aroma is ALL dark chocolate and heavy roasted malts. This is lovely to smell!

Flavor is dark malts, toasted bread, slightly burnt earth and dark dark chocolate. It finishes with a nice toast of cocoa. This is very tasty all around, and it’s fairly straight forward but in the best kind of way. This beer doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not, and what it is….is lovely.
