Day #100 – Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout

April 11, 2011

Day 100. I can’t believe I’ve made it this far already. It seems like I just started this project and now I’m at my first major milestone. It feels good to be here, but I have a feeling this will be over before I know it. Here’s some stats thus far:

Total views to date: 4,948 (Thank you so much!!)

Most viewed page: Shiner Light Blonde at 237 views. Keep in mind it has only been posted for 42 days; that’s about 5.5 views a day. I kid you not, people search for this term EVERY DAY.

Thanks for reading. Here’s a awesome beer for an awesome day!

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout

Great Divide is a fairly large brewery out of Denver, Colorado and I am absolutely shocked that it’s taken 100 days for me to get in one of their beers! They have several beers in our area, and the Yeti is their Imperial Stout. They also do numerous treatments on this beer and release them in 22oz bombers. You may also come across, Oak Aged Yeti, Espresso Oak Aged Yeti, Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti and very recently Belgian Style Yeti. Today I am reviewing their original treatment at 9.5% ABV.

This beer pours black as night. There’s no way you can see anything through this; it’s that dark. It also has a large brown head that looks like a loaf of bread. Holy crap this is dark.

Aroma is intense indeed. Lots of dark malts, sharp chocolate, warm roasted notes and as it warms, a roasted coffee. Lots of alcohol can be felt in the heaviness. Man this smells great!

Flavor is heavy malts and bread. Roasted dark malts and coffee ground. Also large dark chocolate notes as well. This is very heavy and very intense. The alcohol presence can be felt on the finish as it warms your throat all the way to the belly. This stuff is awesome indeed! Wow very good.

Cheers to the next 265 days!
