Day #51 – Samuel Adams Scotch Ale

February 21, 2011

Day 2 of 3 in the Samuel Adams series this week.  Expect the 3rd soon….

Samuel Adams Scotch Ale

I had been looking forward to this beer for a long time.  It was only recently distributed to our area and I jumped on it the first time I saw it.  Scotch ales have been a favorite style of mine for quite awhile, and this one was certainly no exception.  It rings in at 5.4%.

This beer is very attractive to look at.  It pours a nice dark orange hue that almost touches on red.   The beige head compliments the color of this ale as well.

The aroma of this is quite nice as well.  Lots of elements of peat moss and wood, with a decent grain backbone to support it.

The flavor matches the aroma with a heavy grain characteristic and wood edges.  There is a heavy smoked element also which is directly from the peated malt.  It finishes with some dry bitterness and lingering smoke.  Not bad, not bad at all.
